BE YOURSELF... HAVE MORE FUN... SELL MORE REAL ESTATE

"The more fun you have selling real estate, the more real estate you will sell!"fun

I believe this with all my heart. When I'm having fun and feeling good, my business explodes. Have you ever noticed that one great phone call begets another ... and another? When you're rolling in MoJo and you know you're hot stuff... the whole world seems to think so, too.  And that phone RINGS!

So, how to keep the MoJo Risin'? By ramping up your cold-calling and door-knocking efforts? By committing to yet another expensive monthly postcard campaign?

Uh, no. Not for me at least.

If I were to force myself to make phone calls to strangers on a regular basis, I'd be a mess. Because that's not ME and it's not FUN.  And I can guarantee you it would be incredibly UNproductive time for me, in more ways than one. Not only would I be utterly wasting my time during my stranger-pestering activities, but I'd also be one depressed, MoJo-les real estate agent. Which is bad for my mood... and therefore my business.

So, what's FUN for you? Do that. Often. Okay, well, if the only fun things you can think of are sleeping and reading, those might not work, but otherwise... what makes you smile? What would you do more of "if you only had the time?"

Chances are, most of the things you enjoy doing involve being out in the world where other people happen to be. And if you're out there too, being yourself, having fun, you'll be magnetic. And it's REAL EASY to let people know you're a kick-a$$ real estate agent (assuming you believe that yourself) when you're in a good mood and feeling foxy.

Don't tell me you don't have time to have fun. Puh-leeeeaze! Life's WAY TOO SHORT for that attitude, doncha' think? Sooooooo.... it's the first weekend of summer - GO HAVE SOME FUN!

Jennifer, great advice. I'm a firm believer in "what goes around comes around." If you exude a positive outlook on life, good things will happen whether it is in your business or in life; and you mind as well have fun doing it. Have fun!

Great Post!

Jennifer - Last night I invited a friend to go to a movie with me--afterwards, she invited me to go to the desert to help her select a quarter million dollar little getaway!  You can bet we will have fun some weekend very soon!

Jennifer - I agree wholeheartedly.  Things just seem to "click" when I am having fun in my business.  Great post on this topic.

Jennifer, you and I think alike... I have posted similar blogs, just not as eloquently as yours!  I am a firm believer in having a fun outlet to stay sane and happy.  I think we are all more efficient and better at selling when we are happy, and customers appreciate a genuine smile as well. happiness is really something that is hard to fake.

I have never cold-called and have no intentions of starting now! But I have knocked on doors.. of FSBOs! I did the FSBO door-knocking when I was still within my first couple of years in the business. But I had an excellent track record of listing and selling those FSBOs because of my organization and follow-up skills. It was all a matter of catching them at the right time. It's very likely that they're going to want to list eventually. For newer agents, door-knocking for FSBO listings can be a great way to jump start your business, IF you have the personality for it! ;)

Jennifer, Great post.  I love this idea of yourself.  Fortunately, for me, I don't know how to be someone else.  I think that's why I became such a follower of yours.  After reading your book, and realizing that someone out there felt that same way I did, who else could I turn to?  You have been a great teacher and mentor.  Thanks.

Jennifer, I have found that when prospects call me, it's FUN. They find me through various ways that I spend alot of time doing (to generate their phone calls). So, I absolutely believe that when we have a passion for what we do, and truly have the honed skills to do it well, that phone will ring.

Jennifer I agree with you.  I think you have to find what works for you.  Nobody like to do things that feel like a chore and a burden.  Fun is the key in this business... if not then you might as well be in any other line of work.  I love your Mo-Jo references because we need it in this business.

Jennnifer, are you really trying to tell us that we are supposed to enjoy what we do? Do you really think we are going to fall for that one? Yeah right! In all seriousness, I always try to tell people that what we do is so much more than selling homes, we are helping dreams come true! How fun is that!

I love just going out looking at homes and then being able to tell my clients what I have found. Its all about making it interesting and fun. If its not fun you wont do it!

We call that "Circulating and perculating!"  Sometimes, just getting out there and doing what you do leads you to business...especially if you're astute at letting people know what it is that you do!

As a rookie, I watched what most of the other agents in our firm were doing and decided to do just the opposite.  I have FUN everyday.  I love selling houses, I love meeting new clients and I love building relationships/friendships with my clients.  I made the decision several years ago that I would always work where I could make a difference in someone's life and I have finally found the RIGHT job for me.  I LOVE SELLING HOUSES!  Did I already say that?  My clients are my friends or they become one.  When I am showing them houses, I always find a way for us to have fun during our "showing time".  Whether that is having an ice cream cone or stopping to see a kite flying on the beach... it is all about building a REAL kinship.  Life is about FUN and living it to the fullest everyday!
